A USB Stick is required to install Menaco Customware to original multimedia devices: MediaNav, MediaNav Evolution, GEN1 and GEN5 (devices without a built-in SD Card slot). (Note: An SD Card is used to install Menaco to multimedia devices with SD slots: GEN2 and GEN5).
Once Menaco is installed, the USB Stick is used to store navigation maps and the file manager Total Commander CE (except of GEN5 devices).
All multimedia devices support USB 2.0 memory sticks up to 32 GB.
The purpose of a flash drive is not limited to storing cards. It is multifunctional. You can also store your video and audio files. To do this, create the VIDEO and AUDIO folders in the root of the USB stick.
Important For USB Sticks
- The USB ports of all head units are very sensitive to the quality of USB storage devices. The success of the installation and operation of customware depends on the quality of the USB Stick. The USB Stick stores navigation maps. For a good indexing speed of maps, we recommend using flash drives with a data transfer rate of at least 15 Mb/s.
- We strongly recommend that you take a new USB flash drive tested for installation and recommended below.
- To install customware on all multimedia devices except of GEN5: USB 2.0 Stick of 16-32 GB, SanDisk (in particular, SanDisk Cruser Force), Samsung, Kingston. In order to avoid mechanical damage to the flash drive during operation, it is desirable that its length be small, for example, SanDisk Cruizer Fit or Kingston DT Micro, only 0.5 cm long.
- To install customware on GEN5 devices, it is strongly recommended to use a new USB 2.0 Stick of 32 GB tested for installation only: SanDisk Cruzer Force since this flash drive showed the most stable performance.
Helpful Tips For USB Sticks
- Before installing Menaco, prepare a blank USB Stick 16-32 GB (see recommendations above). Format the Stick (FAT32 format, perform full (overwrite) formatting, don’t do quick formatting).
- After installing Menaco, do not delete any installation files from the USB Stick.
- After installing Menaco, be sure to make a complete copy of your working USB Stick (backup copy) on your PC. This copy can help in case of loss of the flash device or its physical damage. Then there will be no need to install Menaco again. It is enough to copy the backup to a new USB Stick. It is also convenient to have two flash drives in order to regularly update music: one is in the car, the second is used to download new music and video, followed by replacing the flash drives with each other.
- Please note that Menaco Internet uses a USB modem. A MicroSD card inserted into the USB modem. Menaco is installed on a regular USB Stick, and after the installation is complete, the USB flash drive is completely copied to the MicroSD, which is inserted into the modem.
- Multimedia devices are very sensitive to the quality of USB Sticks. USB Sticks can change their properties over time and become fragmented (temporary files are created, their fragments remain). After a year or two of using the USB Stick, the following effects may appear: “freezing”, “slowing down” of navigation or the inability to open navigation programs (Navitel may display the message “Not enough free memory. Can be very fragmented”).
- Typically, a USB flash drive is formatted in FAT32 format. For this file system, the maximum file size is 4 GB. There are cards that are more than 4 GB (for example,Seven Roads map of Russia ). When you try to unzip such cards to a USB flash drive, you get an error “the file size is more than 4 GB”. Solution: Format the USB flash drive in EXFAT format.
